Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask
Cask Type: Refill Hogshead

The Pittyvaich distillery was closed in 1993 and then later demolished in 2002. With that said I was excited to find a sample of this in SA and give my first Pittyvaich whisky a go, especially since bottlings are quite hard to find. (Apparently the distillery was intentionally built to provide malt for blends.)
Nose: A light nose of grass with faint green apples and unsweetened orange juice in the background. Although soft still a pleasure to nose.
Taste: Very middle of the range. No strong flavours of any one kind. Not really sweet nor spicy, but both present in small balanced amounts. Quite smooth, not very viscous, and light on the palette.
Finish: Both spice and sweetness emerges a little stronger now, but still nothing overpowering, and then gently wither. An easy drinker and a bit of a palette cleanser.
My Score: 78/100
The overall feel of this whisky is light with soft flavours, nothing distinct yet still likable. Although not overly impressive, it is still sad to think that the distillery that produced this is no more. A minute of silence please.
Other Scores: Couldn’t find any.
