Distilleries
When I first got serious about single malt Scotch whisky I found an online list of Scotch distilleries. It was an eye opener to see just how many there were, and it also became a to-try list with a personal goal to try an expression from each distillery. The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), the Scotch whisky governing body, identifies 5 official whisky producing regions in Scotland, namely: Highland, Speyside, Islay, Campbeltown and Lowland. Whisky enthusiasts tend to add another group called ‘Islands’ which includes whiskies from non-Islay islands, in the below list I’ve included all 6 regions as well as distilleries that produce grain whisky used in blends.
Hopefully this will serve as a to-try list for whisky newcomers.
