Glendullan 9yo IB

Whisky: Glendullan 9yo 1996/2005, 46%
Murray McDavid, 3600 bottles
R330 ≈ £30

The cask types used for maturation are bourbon and Grenache, finished in Banyuls. I’ll be honest, I had to Google both to know what they are. Unusual casks, unsual age, and a beautiful burnt orange colour.

Nose: Suffers from bipolar disorder; first there’s nothing, then you’re choking on alcohol fumes, then nothing. A bit buttery, faint wet wood, and the slightest hint of minced red grapes. Disappointing.

Taste: Quite punchy and not what you would expect given the subdued nose. A generous dose of medium spice with undertones of dark stewed fruits.

Finish: Smooth at first then followed by varying waves of spice. Leaves the mouth well coated even after the dram is long gone.

My Score: 74

Not bad, but its missing something special. Overall its easy to drink and very warming. Would work well in a flask for a cold night out.

Other Scores: Couldn’t find any

Sorry for the poor photo, will reattempt again soon.
