Our very first exclusive port* release from proudly South African distillery, Boplaas. Crafted from old-vine Portuguese grape varietals, Touriga Nacional (80%), Tinta Barocca (10%), Souzao (5%) and Touriga Franca (5%). Hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in lagars with intense manual pigeage to extract optimal flavour, colour and tannins prior to fortification with wine spirit. Matured for 12 months in Portuguese pipe cask and then rested in tank until bottling in 2023. Only 120 bottles were produced. Bottled at 18%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: A bouquet of crushed black berry, tart cranberry, kirsch and purple plums with bright all-spice top notes intermingled by fynbos and savoury undercurrents.

Palate: A bold palate with notes of liquorice, red fruits and hints of dark chocolate.

Finish: Concludes in a dry finish.

Port is a geographically protected indication, meaning that to be called port it must be made in a specific region of Portugal. Thus, this is not technically a port wine, however, South African has a long tradition of producing port-styled wines in exactly the same process as is done in Portugal.
