Part of Diageo's Special Releases for 2017, a single malt from the Teaninich distillery in the Highlands. Distilled in 1999, matured for 17 years in a combination of refill American oak hogsheads and sherry butts and bottled in 2017, the year of the distillery's 200th anniversary. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.9%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: At first citrus-fruity and fragrant; pears in syrup, lychees, mandarins and lemon sherbet. Then a spicier edge, with cinnamon and nutmeg then toffee apples, with almonds.
Palate: An initial burst of citrus is swept away by candied sweetness and a prickle of spice, before lemon cake, digestive biscuits and spiced porridge. Sharper oak then fades to reveal hints of wine gum and lemon zest.
Finish: Lengthy and warming with spicy oak-wood, a pinch of white pepper, lingering candied sweetness.
