When Kilchoman started producing spirit in December of 2005, it was the first new distillery on Islay in 125 years, and with such highly regarded whisky-making neighbours, whisky lovers had high expectations. Fortunately, Kilchoman has lived up to all of them, and if anything, has continued to impress, from its very first releases to its new ones.
A true farm distillery, producing only 200,000 litres per year (the smallest on Islay), with a quarter of its barley requirements coming from fields that surround the distillery and malting 20% of their barley themselves (20ppm) while the rest is malted at local Port Ellen maltings (50ppm).
