DESCRIPTION
The Local Barley is an annual release from the Springbank distillery produced from barley grown in or around Campbeltown. Each year a local farmer is commissioned to grow barley on the distillery's behalf to continue producing this 'grain to glass' limited edition. This 2021 edition is crafted from Belgravia barley grown at the Glencraigs Farm. Distilled in June 2010, matured for 10 years in ex-Oloroso sherry casks and bottled in December 2020. 8,500 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 55.6%.
OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES
Nose: Rich, fruity and nutty with notes of raisins and prunes, a hint of bitter dark chocolate, espresso coffee beans and walnuts.
Palate: Elegantly rich and creamy. Sweet creme brulee and a touch of zesty orange peel. Sweet and spicy with a hint of nutmeg.
Finish: The finish opens to give flavours of juicy soaked maraschino cherries, delicious caramel shortcake with a coastal briny influence towards the end.
