A limited release from boutique blenders, Compass Box, launched in 2023 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Peat Monster. The Peat Monster Cask Strength: Origin Story is comprised of a blend of "Williamson" (a pseudonym for a well known Islay distillery) aged in refill American oak hogsheads; malt whisky from the Caol Ila distillery, aged in refill American oak hogsheads, American oak Bourbon barrels, and refill puncheons; and a Highland malt blend aged in custom French oak barrels with a heavy toast. In addition, Compass Box has celebrated The Peat Monster’s US roots through a partial finishing of the blend in American white oak barrels for 3 to 4 months. 9,126 bottles were produced. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled in December 2022 at a cask strength of 56.7%. 

Nose: Sooty barbecue smoke, green apple and powerfully aromatic citrus oils, all underpinned by warming cinnamon.

Palate: Tarry, smoked almond, with the seasoned virgin oak delivering added richness and vanilla notes alongside seaweed, cayenne pepper and saltiness.

Finish: Lingering peat smoke.
