Lady May is Glenelly’s flagship estate wine which pays tribute to the pedigree of its legionary owner, May de Lencquesaing. The 2010 vintage is made from a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Harvested by hand from early to mid-March, the grapes were lightly crushed into stainless steel tanks. The fermentation was done by natural yeast with a mixture of rack and returns and open pump-overs. Post-fermentation skin contact for 2-3 weeks and pressed gently. Malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak barrels. The wine stayed on the lees for a long period of time before racking on average every 4 months. Matured for 24 months in new French oak barrels. During the aging, the wine is clarified with natural egg whites and bottled later. 24,000 bottles were produced. Bottled at 14.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Lovely nuanced aromas of prunes, dates and cassis. Interlaced perfectly with sweet spices tones of cloves and aniseed and whiffs of cedar oak.
Palate: Still a little fresh red fruit on entry, develops into dried fruits such as prunes. Mid-palate has a lovely elegant medium body with savoury notes of cloves as well as earthy notes.
Finish: Soft powdery tannins with lingering notes of tobacco and oak spice.
