Grande Couronne (meaning crown in French) was launched in 2021 as part of Glenfiddich's Grand series, a collection of single malts which includes Glenfiddich 23yo Grand Cru and Glenfiddich Gran Reserva. Although a standard release, only a limited number will be produced each year.
Matured for 26 years in a combination of American and European oak casks then finished for two years in rare French cognac casks. The bottle and packaging are adorned with ornamental gold filigree, while the inside of the box is decorated with artwork styled on Renaissance-era paintings. Bottled at 43.8%. (Bottle size 750ml.)
Nose: Vibrant and lively with an abundance of toasty oak sweetness. Reminiscent of a French patisserie, freshly-baked tarte tatin and buttery choux pastry.
Palate: Deep, velvety smooth and indulgently sweet. Café crème with soft brown sugar and a hint of spice.
Finish: Very long-lasting sweet oak.
