From Nikka's Yoichi distillery this no-age-statement was launched in 2016 to replace their dwindling aged-expressions but became just as hard to find within a few years. Produced from a vatting of different years, lightly/medium peated and matured in a combination of American oak and sherried casks. Bottled at 45%.
Nose: A mellow peat to growing more powerful with time, as smoke, soot and salt arrive. Evolves to candied lemon and orange, black liquorice and nutmeg and ginger spices.
Palate: A well-balanced delivery with peat, smoke, spices, fresh fruit (melon, kiwi) and nuts. Chocolate follows with the peat soon taking the lead once again.
Finish: Long and silky with pear, plum, apple and a herbaceous and malty character, while the salty flavours give the finish depth and a coastal freshness.
