Thorne & Daughters first began producing their Copper Pot Pinot Noir as a dedicated wine for the family’s hotel, Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse, in the KZN Drakensberg. The wines have evolved and grown but the standard has remained. Grapes for the Pinot Noir 2023 were sourced from five vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge and Overberg appellations. Hand-picked into small lugs and fermented in stainless steel. Maceration typically lasts 40-45 days to extract complex tannins. Wines undergo spontaneous malolactic fermentation and age in old French oak barrels for 9 months. Residual sugar: 2.5g/l. Bottled at 14%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: A perfumed nose with notes of mulberries, pomegranate, grapefruit, and herbal tones.
Palate: Rich and complex, balancing savoury wood spice with fruit flavours like plums, red currants, and blood orange.
Finish: Soft and supple tannins with refreshing acidity.
Thorne and Daughters Wines was started in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe to produce authentic wines in the Western Cape where they have made their home. To produce the wines, they’ve drawn on the great history of Cape wine, putting together old vineyard parcels with new grape varieties and making wines with old school simplicity and a modern edge. Their approach to wine making is simple honest and gentle, looking to make wines that tell a story of the Cape of Good Hope.
