Crafted by winemaker Janno Briers-Louw in the Agter-Paarl region, grapes for the Eenzaamheid Shiraz 2022 were sourced from dryland vineyards planted in 1997. Grapes were harvested in crates, sorted and de-stemmed. Cool fermented; 20% whole bunch. Fermentation took place in open top fermentation vessels and the rising cap was punched down every 4-6 hours. Matured in 300-litre and 400-litre French oak barrels (20% new) for 11 months. Residual sugar: 3.7g/l. Bottled at 14%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Cascading aromas of white pepper, mixed spices, game meat, charcuterrie and Fynbos shrub are further complemented by aromatic scents of raspberry, blueberry and hedgerow fruits.
Palate: The palate is opulent yet refined, showcasing a rich tapestry of blackberries, mulberries, and plums, accented by hints of dark chocolate and smoked spices. The fruit purity is beautifully framed by well-integrated oak.
Finish: The finish is long and dry, with fine-grained tannins adding structure and grip. Refreshing acidity provides freshness and balance. Lingering notes of raspberry tart, fruit pastilles, and savoury herbs leave a lasting impression of depth and elegance.
