The Lindi Carien is named after the wife of winemaker, Franco Lourens. Produced from a blend of 52% Chenin Blanc, 27% Verdelho, 13% Colombar, 5% Grenache Blanc (five days skin contact) and 3% Palomino sourced variously from Piekenierskloof, Stellenbosch and Voor-Paardeberg. Matured for 10 months in old 300- and 500-litre barrels. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Some floral perfume before stone fruit, orange, spice and a little waxy character on the nose.
Palate: The palate has good fruit weight and moderate acidity. A wine with a subtle oxidative quality, nicely tangy with a little bit of phenolic grip.
Finish: A gently savoury finish.
Lourens Family Wines is run by winemaker Franco Lourens. He sources fruit from Stellenbosch, Swartland, and in particular Piekenierskloof for his wines. Franco grew up in Paarl and studied at Elsenburg Agricultural College. He then worked at David Finlayson Wines (where he made his first experimental wines) and later joined Chris Alheit as assistant. He is particularly enamoured with the unique flavours and textures of Cape Verdelho and Grenache Noir, both of which feature heavily in his two blends.
