Launched in 2023, Rooster Rojo Mezcal is a handcrafted mezcal from Lopes Sosa Palenque, a small artisanal distillery in San Juan del Rio, established by the father of Rooster Rojo's master distiller Arturo Fuentes Cortes. Produced using underground ovens to cook the seven year old espadin agave; open wooden vats, covered with agave fibres, are used for fermentation. The spirit is then distilled in copper pot stills, sealed with local clay. The bottle is dark, similar to traditional clay bottles. The purpose of this is to prevent the liquid being affected by direct sunlight and to ensure it is not visible to the 'bad eye' before consumption, a traditional Oaxacan belief. Each bottle of mezcal is signed by maestro mezcalero (master mezcal maker) Rodolfo Lopez Juan. Bottled at 43%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Woody, caramel, orange peel, and smoke.

Palate: Agave, citrus, smoke, spices, and herbs.

Finish: Earthy, charcoal, smoke.
