The grapes for the Kaapzicht Kliprug Chenin Blanc 2023 were sourced from a heritage vineyard planted in 1982. This unirrigated vineyard thrives in weathered granite topsoil with crumbly clay subsoil, earning the name "Kliprug" due to the abundance of rocks scattered across the ground. The grapes were handpicked, gently crushed, and destemmed, with skin contact maintained during pressing. After pressing, a natural sedimentation process was allowed to occur overnight, using light and delicate pressure (maximum 0.8kpa). Following settling, the wine was transferred to 400-litre and 500-litre barrels for spontaneous fermentation lasting between 2 to 4 weeks. It was then aged in barrels for 10 months before being bottled. Residual sugar: 2.9g/l. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: A rich and complex bouquet featuring aromas of bruised yellow fruits, white peach, honeyed pineapple, and subtle leesy undertones.
Palate: A harmonious blend of ripe quince, pineapple, and stone fruit, complemented by savoury nuances. The texture is lightly creamy and plush, with a hint of sweetness.
Finish: A brisk and focused finish, where the wine's gravitas and fruit weight are supported by a clean, direct profile. The balancing crunchy acidity leaves a lasting impression of its elegant and tightly wound character.
