Described as the "Bella Donna" of their range, The Garajeest Stevie Syrah is crafted from 100% Syrah grapes, sourced from the cool-climate region of Elgin. Produced in an oxidative style in an open fermenter, using oxygen and the naturally high acidity from the Elgin fruit as a tool to prolong the wines aging potential. To preserve the purity of the fruit, the wine matures in a carefully selected range of French oak barrels of older fills, for a period of between 10-12 months. This approach enhances the wine’s structure and bouquet, adding layers of depth and a beautiful complexity without overshadowing its fruit characters - a harmonious integration of oak, fruit, acidity and oxygen. Nose: Aromas of deep, dark berry fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by subtle hints of spice and earthy undertones.

Palate: The wine presents a rich profile of ripe dark berries, delivering a smooth and velvety mouthfeel with its silky tannins. The oxidative winemaking approach contributes to its complexity, adding layers of nuanced flavours.

Finish: A memorable, lingering finish that balances the wine's natural acidity with its fruit-forward character, suggesting excellent aging potential.

One of 2017's "Young Guns of Wine" in South Africa, Zimbabwean-born Callan Williams swapped a career as a ballet dancer for an even bigger love for wine. After a stint as assistant winemaker at Iona, she set up on her own label called The Garajeest in 2014, with her debut 2015 vintages released in February 2017.
